Uber Drivers Banned From Carrying Guns To Protect Themselves

(ANTIMEDIA) It was reported this week that rideshare company Uber has banned all of its drivers from carrying guns, sending a clear message to potential muggers and carjackers that Uber drivers will not be able to protect themselves.

The company announced this week that they will be firing any drivers who are caught violating the new policy—which apparently went into effect nearly two weeks ago—because they contend that an unarmed driver makes their customers feel more safe.

Oddly, this change in policy comes just two months after an Uber driver in Chicago saved many lives by shooting an attacker that randomly opened fire on a group of pedestrians. Luckily, the driver was not charged with any crime and it was ruled that he acted in the defense of others.

To make matters even worse for rideshare drivers, Uber’s competition, Lyft, has a similar policy that promises to fire any employees who carry protection.

Utilizing smartphones for rideshares is an incredible idea, however, it has become apparent that the dominant companies in the marketplace are far from ethical. Additionally, there is now a vital need for a number of alternatives that can provide the same service with more care towards its employees and customers.
