On Tuesday, a 22 year old named John Crawford was shot dead by police for simply holding a toy gun in Wal-Mart, ‘alarming other shoppers’.
He was holding a toy gun at Wal-Mart, and before he could do anything to avert the situation, the police aim at him, he says ‘It’s not real’, and then he was shot dead.
As he lied on the ground bleeding, with the last moments of his life fading away, the police said ‘get on the ground’.
Not only did he die, but it was revealed that an innocent bystander collapsed and died, witnessing this man’s murder.
The mother of two later died in the hospital, days before her wedding, out of sheer panic from witnessing the police commit this murder.
The police originally said it was a real gun that the killed man (John Crawford) possessed, and later admitted it was just a toy, that they lied.
The officers who are responsible for the deaths of these two innocent people are named Sean Williams and Sgt. David Darkow.
John Crawford’s girlfriend had this to say about his death.
“He said he was at the video games playing videos and he went over there by the toy section where the toy guns were. And the next thing I know, he said ‘It’s not real,’ and the police start shooting and they said ‘Get on the ground,’ but he was already on the ground because they had shot him. And I could hear him just crying and screaming. I feel like they shot him down like he was not even human.”
“He did not have any type of gun on him. It’s not fair.” she said.
He came to the store with his girlfriend and was carrying an airsoft rifle that was for sale at the store when 2 paranoid shoppers called the police.
Hopefully with the redundant, repeated killings of innocent people by police, the general outrage expressed by people who have to live with this will be enough to stop the killings from happening again. Productive outrage and peacefully putting effort into alternatives to the current police is the only way to remedy these out of control killings.
It’s also up to citizens to not be afraid of their fellow Americans. There have been multiple situations where people called the cops for no real reason which ended up in innocent people being shot by them.
