Israeli Logic: Combat "Propaganda" with Actual Propaganda

(ANTIMEDIA) Recently, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an animated video that it says is meant to “open your eyes about Gaza.” The cartoon—which mocks foreign press coverage of last summer’s attack on Gaza—is blatant Israeli propaganda that was created and released to the public with the intention of combating foreign propaganda. Alas, the rabbit hole of—you guessed it—propaganda.

The animated clip depicts a foreign news reporter who is at the forefront of the video while different areas of Gaza are displayed in the background.

The opening clip begins with the reporter saying, “We’re here in the center of Gaza and as you can see, the people here are trying to live quiet lives. There are no terrorists here, just ordinary people,”—all while a masked terrorist launches a rocket into the city behind him. The remainder of the video follows the same setup: essentially, whatever occurs in the background directly contradicts what the reporter says about Gaza and its residents.

While it is true that the media has a reputation for misrepresenting the truth—or ignoring the truth altogether—Israel cannot retaliate against facts.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs released the following information on the Palestinian territory:

In 2014 alone, a total of 2,205 Palestinians were killed. At least 1,483 were civilians, 521 were children, and 283 were women. Over 500,000 were displaced at the peak of the attacks and over 100,000 remain displaced. Approximately 18,000 housing units were destroyed entirely or highly damaged.

The numbers above represent just a fraction of the atrocities that Israel has committed against the Palestinian people over several decades. These numbers are not something the Israeli government can hide from. However, it is yet to take responsibility for its actions.

Israel has tried time and again to sweep facts under the rug—this time by using a poorly-produced cartoon as its medium of “self-defense.”
